This pen writes very smooth! It does have a thicker line than expected. The box was disappointing as it was not anything of quality as stated. Considering the price if this pen and that it was to come with an elegant box, Olu would have been very disappointed giving this as a gift. But, it is just a box if you plan on using the pen for yourself.
It means "the color that is popular now" and refers to the red color dyed with safflower, which was touted during the Heian period. You can see how much it was liked by women of the dynasty at that time.
